Janna Waldinger

As a third-generation photographer, Janna Waldinger, was formally trained by her father from an early age to see the world through a photographer’s eye. She recognizes the light, shadows, depth, and textures of the world around her.

As an accomplished mixed-media artist in fiber, glass, steel, and photographic elements, her work hangs in private collections and has been exhibiting her work nationally and internationally since 1976. She is a graduate in Sculpture from the College of Creative Studies at UCSB in 1979. Currently she lives, works and exhibits her work in Napa, California. She co-owns a photography company Art & Clarity. Janna created "The Art Of Seeing" a photography adventure inviting visitors and locals on a photography experience to see the world through the artist's eyes. Janna is a devoted mother. Her dedication to children has extended to her service for the last 26 years as an elected official as Trustee on the Napa County Board of Education.

Statement

I, Janna Waldinger, am a creative bridge between worlds of the seen and unseen, between the practical and the enchanted. I love metaphors and archetypes. I find meaning in paths, portals, windows and doorways. For more than 30 years I’ve been photographing people in doorways, on the threshold. The threshold as a metaphor of the transition between worlds. One foot in one world and one foot in the other world.

When I live a life that is original and colorful, it brings me a deep sense of fulfillment and joy. Seeing life through the eye of the artist brings new creative life force into my being. I’m a woman who finds meaning in everything… in light and shadows.

As a photographer and image maker I get excited as I notice the direction of light. I use the camera to frame the world into a story I want to share. I focus on the world I want to live in and that informs my day.
