Geoff Hansen

Following a career as a lawyer and administrative law judge, Geoff retired to Napa Valley in 2016 and was then able to pursue his long-held interest in photography on an uninterrupted basis. After enjoying some success in local regional fairs and other competitions, he was approached by the management of a winery to show his work in their tasting room. This successful exhibit highlighted the changing seasons of Napa Valley. From there, one thing led to another and, one day in a happy accident, Geoff was invited to photograph a night harvest in Rutherford. This project opened up a new chapter and he has not missed a fall harvest since, accumulating a substantial portfolio of dramatic black and white images depicting the hard work and dedication of the vineyard workers. More recently, Geoff now provides photography for several different producers and his work can be seen at Art Gallery Napa Valley (where he is a permanent member) as well as in other venues around the Napa Valley. Additionally, his work can be found in many businesses and homes in the area, as well as far beyond Napa, including Chicago, New York, Florida, Texas and several countries in Europe.

Statement

Through my photography I endeavor to show the viewer aspects of the Napa Valley that they might otherwise not see. A number of my images, often created during the shoulders of the day or during periods of moody weather showcase the spectacular landscape of the Valley. Another important series includes images of the night harvest where I bring the viewer into the fields to see exactly what goes into crafting a bottle of wine. My hope is that these images leave the viewer with a more intimate understanding of, and appreciation for, this delightful corner of California.
